| Liz
Garrett started in the design business making crepe paper dresses at the age of
six. Liz would sneak past her mother to go to school wearing her proud creation
and ultimately her mother would run after her and stop her from going to school
in a paper dress. She couldn't understand why her mother wouldn't let her wear
her beautiful creation.
Liz kept designing clothes
for her dolls and eventually began designing clothes and prom dresses for her
friends in high school. Early in Liz's career she opened a custom clothing
store on Balboa Island, California, called "The Yellow Brick Road".
Through business contacts Liz met up with the reknown interior
designer, Helen Shepardson who became her mentor. Helen taught Liz how to make
beautiful, high-quality pillows and accessories for the home. While
living in Newport Beach, California, Liz met Mamie Van Doren and ended up designing
stage clothes and personal clothes for her. She made the suit that Mamie wore
on a Fantasy Island episode and they remain good friends today. Liz
has done home design for Diane Keaton, Judith Krantz, and while working for the
company "Painted Lady" she worked on projects for Ali Mcgraw, Martin
Short and Pierce Brosnan and her work has been featured in "House and Garden",
"Country Home" and "Traditional Home." Liz
has always enjoyed collecting vintage fabrics, buttons, and jewelry and making
unique gifts for friends. As more people saw these unique designs they became
more in demand and Liz decided to start her own unique gift business. Currently,
Liz has a soft home furnishing and design business that specializes in upholstery
slipcovers, draperies, pillows, bedding, etc. Take advantage of one of
these unique one-of-a-kind gifts designed by Liz Garrett. |
